An exceptional open-back, late 19th century French diamond daisy brooch of the highest order.
A commanding rose cut diamond measuring 8.2 mm (approximately 2 carats), its broad, open facets catching and releasing light, is the focal point. From this luminous core unfolds a meticulously constructed bloom: 18 sculpted petals, each set with four rose cut diamonds, encircling a further ring of stones forming the inner stamen. The total diamond weight has been carefully estimated at approximately 3.13 carats.
The diamonds are set in the traditional manner of the period—silver over 18ct gold—a construction designed to heighten brilliance while maintaining structural integrity. All stones are original, with a bright and lively presence in the VS–SI range and near colorless tone.
The reverse reveals one of the great technical delights of 19th century French jewelry: a patented trombone clasp (1865), complete with its charming floral terminal, both secure and exquisitely decorative. The piece bears the French eagle hallmark, confirming its gold purity. It was likely part of a tiara or grand parure, as it has the screw-back mechanism on the reverse inferring relation to other mechanical fasteners.
