A miniature masterpiece of the mid-19th century French enamel tradition, this brooch in 18ct gold depicts a young woman being led to the altar of love by a joyful Cupid. A crimson mantle sweeps around her shoulders, doves fly above the flaming heart upon the colorful plinth as her wedding crown awaits her arrival in the foreground. The story goes that, though reluctant to submit to love, once she turns her face to the altar to see the flaming heart of her soon-to-be mate, Cupid's torch will set her heart, similarly, ablaze.

The enamel painting—on metal as the best ones were done—is attributed to Auguste Perrette, an enamelists of the Napoleon III period held in the highest regard.

The piece also features a vinaigrette top and a glass locket back, both rare. It’s a jewel with narrative depth, painterly sophistication, and historical pedigree, the perfect 1850’s collection cornerstone.
