The Victorian language of flowers added an extra symbolic strand to the forget-me-not’s message of remembrance: that of true love. Because the Victorians adored both sentimental and symbolic jewelry, it became a common motif, its petals typically being rendered in turquoise or blue enamel, or else being suggested only in outline.
A superb Victorian bezel set amethyst of approximately 31 carats with a thirty-seven diamond halo. Single-cut diamonds with a heavy 15k setting topped with silver. One of the most remarkable details of this brooch is the four Forget-Me-Nots, in compass placement, partially represented in the halo. Each is missing the central petal, to create a flush presentation of the flowers as a part of the greater design.
