An outstanding depiction of a Roman patrician lady with gorgeous locks of curling hair pulled back from her features- this enamel is rendered in a green scale paint to trick the eye to believe it is, in fact, a cameo. I love this jewel and find it to be a wonderful example of mid 19th century novelty- with her curling frame of acorns and forget-me-nots, the surprise of this brooch is rare and delightful.
