Crafted circa 1865 in vibrant 18 carat gold, this sterling and diamond ring is a Napoleon III period treat. With neoclassical shoulders and a Navette design, boasting well over 2cts of diamonds, this historical jewel has a rarity to its construction in its usage of open and closed back diamonds. It is exceptionally rare to find a fine diamond ring which mixes open back settings with a closed foil back; and those rose cut diamonds are eye clean.
The central diamond stone is estimated at .56cts with an impressive depth- 1.30cts of old-mine cut diamonds support the center, amid rows of foil back, closed setting rose cut diamonds.
Navette, or “little ship” rings, were highly en vogue during the 18th century, often serving as the perfect statement pieces for elegant nights out or celebrations- the Navette shape was revived extensively throughout the 19th century, especially in the latter part of the Napoleon III period in France.
