One of the crown jewels of a recent acquisition expedition, this ruby and fine pearl collar reminds us that the Napoleon III period of decorative arts, is also often refered to as The Romantic Period. The alluring in construction and beauty of this necklace is in its simplicity; four bezel set stations make slight allusions to the first fire of love new love in the foiled flat cut rubies, each one nestled between two cream colored pearls. If there was any doubt as to the sentiment of the necklace, a pear shaped ruby heart insists on the romantic nature of the jewel. A rare necklace to find in such fine condition, this beauty dates to around 1855 and is a remarkable example of the period.Â
