An exceptionally fine mid 20th century piece, this emerald and single cut diamond ‘ribbon’ band reminds the viewer that in jewelry, there is nothing new under the sun. While it may seem an innovative, fun diamond garland that takes special care to incorporate the beloved deco emerald cut into its construction, a keen eye might draw comparison to a style of ring two centuries its senior. The rococo ‘ribbon bands’ most commonly rendered as memorial jewels, use a similar shape to dance around the finger, shown in the final photo side by side with a white enamel memorial band from the V+A collection, we must recall that death and marriage are inextricably linked; for while this may very well have been a wedding band, the sentiment of eternity is ever present.
