A museum quality adornment for the small of your finger!
This 2nd century Dark Carnelian Intaglio ring is a particularly striking example. Workshopped into a vibrant (and later) 18ct gold setting, this intaglio depicts a carving of a soldier preparing for battle. The craftwork and detail is impressive; you can almost feel the emotion of the soldier through the gem. We particularly love the shield detail at the bottom of the carving; it is set aside as if the soldier is performing a quiet ritual before his jaunt into the battlefield.
Rings like this became popular during the height of the Roman Empire, and were used heavily by the ruling class and Roman elite and military officers to show their status, and to act as a talisman of luck in their endeavors.
A great talisman to fortify yourself before taking on the day, this ring is perfect for the art historian and antique collector alike!
