An absolutely magnificent bangle from the 19th century! Crafted circa 1870 in 14 carat gold, this adornment emanates an eccentric and dazzling glamour almost reminiscent of future Art Deco designs. Most notable is the fact that this bangle bears two decorative motifs on either side of the bracelet.
On one half, sharp geometric shapes and whirls stand out in sharp relief, engraved in Black enamel, and creating a chic juxtaposition against the dappled gold setting. On the other half, the designs take on a more decidedly botanical essence, with fleur-de-lis, leafy foliage, and bluebell flowers scrolling against the gold mount. Simply beautiful!
Also beautiful is the delicate chain detail along the bracelet; when worn on your wrist, the chain dangles in a lovely layering effect. Understated elegance, with an artsy flair!
A closer inspection on the interior side of the bracelet reveals a delicate monogram of the letters A, G, and I. Was this bangle a gift to a beloved paramour? One can’t say for sure, but the existence of this sweet signature certainly adds a layer of sentimentality to this piece.
With its rich, stunning detail and fine Victorian craftspersonship, this bangle is a perfect addition to any antique jewelry collection!
