The American archaeological revival period was quite different than the revivals of ancient cultures in other parts of the world. The American lilt of visual language hearkening back to the pre-byzantine world tends to have a large focus on Greco-Roman motifs, this beautiful locket is one such excellent example. With an Amphorae like central element, and pearl decoration, this gorgeous locket underscores how American jewelry of this period had a direct relationship with East Lake architecture that had taken hold in California, specifically San Fransisco. I think this gorgeous 14ct locket will be a stellar addition to whatever collection it joins.
