A delightful Victorian charm with the most magical construction!
This 19th century Stanhope Steamer Train Charmer is one of the rarer pieces we’ve come across. Crafted circa 1885 in 14 carat gold, this train is a perfect mix of darling and whimsical, with the intricate detail that Stanhope charms are renowned for.
But alongside the beautiful artistry are some lovely surprises. The wheels for example, are articulated to move – which means you could roll this charm playfully across a surface, or make the wheels spin as the charm hangs from your neck. Adorable!
The greatest surprise, however, is held within: through a peeping porthole on the train, you’ll just catch sight of Niagara Falls. Yes, really! It’s such a sweet and magical detail, that one can almost imagine the train coming to life, trumpeting out its iconic whistle.
This charm was likely made in commemoration of the opening of Niagara Falls in 1885. Which makes this an extremely rare and sentimental example indeed. A delightful addition for any historian or antique jewelry lover’s collection!
