Plus Q’Hier, Mois que Demain. More Than Yesterday, Less Than Tomorrow. This lovely phrase is attributed Rosemonde Gérard, from her poem L’éternelle chanson (The Eternal Song). A poignant fact, considering that Rosemonde was the wife of Edmund Rostandt – writer of the acclaimed tale Cyrano de Bergerac.
Rosemonde’s quote became immortalized when in 1907, a French jeweler named Alphonse Augis took inspiration from her poem, using the specific phrase “Qu’hier que Demain” to create the first prototypes of what would become one of the most iconic love jewelry.
This early 20th century ring, crafted in a vibrant 18 carat gold, is a wonderful example of Augis’ famous work. Originating between 1930-1940, this ring boasts a beautiful face, with a gold gallery displaying the iconic quote in fine, rendered detail. Also lovely is the delicate ruby stone nestled in the bottom center of the ring, and the darling miniature diamonds arranged in a small cross at the top center.
This ring is a wonderful find, as it is an extremely rare example of the” Qu’hier, que Demain” phrase in ring form. A perfect addition to any antique or art history collection!
