This stunning pair of drop shaped cameo earrings would be the perfect addition to any cameo lovers collection. Rarely found in the teardrop shape, this exceptional pair mounted with deliciously dainty floral tops are truly a marvel. The cameo’s carved shells contain a beautiful rendering of classical muses holding lyres with their skirts billowing in the wind. The pair are perhaps carved representations of Erato or Terpsichore, who were often depicted carrying the Lyre, as shown in (fig 4), a niche fresco from 1560 of Erato by Paolo Veronese located at the Villa Barbaro in northern Italy.
