A rare, luxurious Victorian slide chain, this exceptional 18” chain has surprised me at every turn. Firstly, the peculiar hyper-pink color of the gold- the pearl insets on the slide, the black enamel details… and the decorated terminal additions, all seem to echo a French chain of this period, but upon close inspection, appear English in origin. Much work was put into emulating French fashion to create this chain— and I was delighted to discover these subtle details, I still am not certain of the origin, but I don’t believe it is French, despite seeming so similar to the pieces made in the Napoleon III period. A wonderful find all around, especially with the .30” diameter c clasp and dog clip at the bottom! It will be a well worn and well loved chain in any collection!
