Outstanding French Art Nouveau Diamond & Ruby Brooch with Natural Grey Pearl
An outstanding French Art Nouveau brooch in 18ct pink gold and sterling, set with rose-cut diamonds, likely Burmese rubies, and a natural grey pearl suspended beneath the design.
An outstanding example of the transition from third-quarter to final-quarter nineteenth-century jewelry construction, this beautiful Art Nouveau brooch is as sumptuous as it is carefully considered. The magic lies in the synergy of the materials and the design: pink gold and sterling, studded with diamonds and rubies, while the flowing lines suggest reeds emerging from a river with channel-set diamond banks. The likely natural grey pearl, suspended from the bottom, implies treasures gently evolving in the river current below the waterline.
