Lavish and luminescent!
This Diamond and Opal Negligee Necklace is one of the most important Belle Epoque – Edwardian jewels we’ve had here at the Curio! Crafted circa 1890 in a lovely 18 carat gold, this necklace is an outstanding example of the fine work English workshops were making towards the end of Queen Victoria’s reign.
Indeed, the construction of this necklace is remarkable: the gold chain is delicate and understated, serving as the perfect conduit for the miniature diamond stones bezel set on either side of the chain. The stones evoke a timeless glamour in the way they are arranged, glittering like miniature stars against the light – and juxtaposing beautifully against the stars of the show: two gorgeous iridescent opal stones.
The Negligee necklace was popular for many reasons during the Victorian era, and it is exciting to see so fine an example – especially with these two large Australian opal stones.
A fantastic edition to any antique jewelry collection!
