A beautiful and glamorous Victorian treasure!
Crafted circa 1860’s in a lovely 9 carat gold, this Garnet Cabochon Bow is MASSIVE, with a lavishly designed motif that serves as the perfect backdrop to these two stunning Garnet Stones. These garnets have the richest hue, as deep and red as roses. This is for certain a statement piece, its silhouette is ostentatious and gorgeous, demanding your gaze.
This bow is English in origin, and though crafted in 1900, speaks well to the mid 19th century fascination with immortalizing the “frivolous fripperies” of women’s hobbies and interests. French jewelry was rife with bows at this current time as well, so it’s no surprise that the English took the trend to a more spartan place – especially with etching like this on the gold, and the Scottish carbuncle garnets taking center stage. The articulated garnet that sways at the bottom of this bodice ornament is especially glamorous.
A wonderful addition to any antique jewelry collection!
