These garnets hail from the former Kingdom of Bohemia, born in the hills of what is known today as the Czech Republic. Bohemian garnet jewelry is renowned for its rose-cut gemstones, bearing resemblance to fresh pomegranate seeds. In an effort to produce a bold and bright color that was more pronounced than when when they were set singularly, these gems are clustered together in 6ct pavé settings to show as little metal as possible, allowing for the richly hued shine of the garnet to play center stage.

This lovely bangle garnet pave bangle, circa 1890, features a stellar cartouche medallion with the largest stone in the composition at the center. Comprised entirely of brilliant rose cut garnets of many sizes, the rose cut faceting allows the gem’s inner glow to flash that characteristic vibrant red hue which stems from their remarkable refractive properties. Pieces from this era were crafted from less expensive metals, making them affordable to a broad audience and allowing them to explode in popularity in the victorian era.
