Darling and breathtaking!

We are so excited to bring this delightful 18th century treasure to market! Crafted circa 1785-1795, this portrait miniature is a true museum quality piece.

Set in copper and 18 carat gold, this portrait displays the visage of a young, rosy cheek maiden – who gazes out with a sweet, coy expression on her face. A coquettish smile tugs on the corner of her lips, and her eyes appear to sparkle with mirth… just who was this enchanting girl? One cannot say for certain, as that’s a mystery lost to time; but what we can say is that the artistic detail and craftspersonship on this piece is astounding!

The pain strokes are vivid and masterfully rendered, and the level of detail is a feast for the eyes. This style of portrait is reminiscent of Vigee Le Brun, circa 1792, in her portrait of Anna Pitt as Hebe – as well as Angelica Kauffman’s work, circa 1795, in her marriage portrait of Henrietta Mill Hill.

Measurements: 2”, 11.55g

Condition: There is a bit of paint loss at the top of the miniature, and a craze line on the sitter’s visage; these minor detractions have, I imagine, allowed such a notable piece of history to appear on the open market.
