Whether a hidden intimation of purity, a luscious allusion to sensuality, or a tear fallen from heaven, pearls are perhaps the most ubiquitous medium for Victorian English jewels. It was during this era that pearl jewelry became fashionable for the young lady who longed for eternity. Her wedding crown was festooned with them, her mourning veil hid them, her birthing bedside bumbled with them-- pearls were part of the life cycle. Pearls encircled in gold, forming circlets for her fingers were a particularly beloved accessory.
