The jewelry designers of the Art Deco period embraced modernism and the advances in technological innovation and machinery. A new genre of design was born – bold, geometric shapes with clean lines and symmetry, providing a more industrial feel.
Black onyx was a favorite in the mourning jewelry of England’s Mid-Victorian Period. The jewelry of this period was often melancholy, reflected the monarch’s sadness at the loss of her beloved Prince Albert, and continued to inspire jewelry trends to come. Onyx is also associated with the astrological symbols of Scorpio, Capricorn, and Leo. It commemorates the 7th Anniversary and symbolizes the midnight hour.
A terribly sleek pair of 1930s late deco earrings in 14k and sterling, these have the most sumptuous faceting of the hoops, with dramatic enamel, and geometric toppers.
