Jewelry and other forms of art during the Edwardian era were elaborate and decorative. Though the 20th century had begun, the Victorian influence was still strong, and this was reflected in the era’s classic, feminine patterns, including jewelry with hearts, flowers, the most beautiful gemstones, and lacy filigree, to name a few.
Pearls were considered a true status symbol during the Edwardian era because they were even more valuable than diamonds! The quality and size of the pearls were imperative. These luminous gems were perfect to use in the lacy “white” theme of the time, with many pieces using both pearls and diamonds in their designs.
This gorgeous little American ring features extremely saturated garnets as well, a long-time symbol of love and friendship. This treasure recollects Dracula's wives, and I thought of it for Mina, as she returns to England as Johnathan's wife. The checkerboard top of this cushion cut garnet recalls the delicacy of way that light moves across the color red.
