The French third empire, or Napoleon III Period, is not only known for its love of finery, but it’s neolclacisism — and to find a jewel that intersects these two pillars of the period’s aesthetic is always a treat. Truly delicate, if you are ever visited by the muse of music, you should jump at the chance to acquire so fine a thing.
A wonderful 18ct and sterling brooch depicting a sizeable, standing harp- one cannot help but recall the myth of mercury’s gift of the first lure to Apollo, the god of the sun, music, and the arts. I love to imagine that this brooch was a gift of the sweetest friendship, perhaps commemorating wonderful nights of music in the garden. This very large scale brooch with blooming floral symbolism, boasts .45cts (estimated) of diamonds, and two beautiful cool tone pearls. It is hallmarked on the reverse.
