An extremely special 19th century locket featuring a wonderful vermeille’d X, this phenomenal heavily gilded locket is one of the best jewels I brought back from france. With a nod to two of the most pivotal revivals of the 19th century, Etruscan (see the boules, caning, and cannetille work!) and Gothic (note the shield like shape, dramatic dark silver, and reliquary style locket back) this rare jewel is a text book piece. I could not be more honored to bring her to market.
Materials and Features: exceptional silver with an extremely heavy 18ct pink gold vermeille
Age/Origin: French, c. 1850-1870
Measurements: 2.25”
Condition: Excellent condition. Minor associated age wear. Note the caning attached delicately around the x is lifted in places, it has always been this way.
Please view and inspect any photos closely. We endeavor to fully disclose all condition information clearly and concisely, however, please note that what qualifies as excellent condition for historical jewelry differs from modern and contemporary pieces; please take the age of the piece into account when examining the piece. Minor age wear is typical and to be expected for antique and vintage jewelry. Unless otherwise stated, gemstones have not been officially graded for color, clarity, or treatment by GIA; any information provided is our own educated, professional assessment.
