An adornment as pretty as the stars in the sky!
This foiled Garnet North Star pendant is a wonderful Victorian archaeological revival example. Crafted circa 1890 in 9 carat gold, this pendant is fashioned into a stunning “North Star” geometric shape, with foiled garnet that glimmers with a blood red hue – casting a romantic silhouette no matter how this pendant is worn.
Star motifs such as this one became quite popular in the 19th century, as designers and jewelry lovers alike gained a renewed interest in the ancient world – fueled by the innovation of new technology that aided in archaeological pursuits.
During this archaeological revival period – especially nearing the end of the 19th century – jewelry designs became highly influenced by the astrological, due in part to the fascination with the way light would have illuminated ancient worlds, like stars, moons, sun, and fire.
This pendant, with its sharp starburst shape and stunning garnet stones that refract beautifully against the light, beautifully illustrates many of these interests. A wonderful addition to any antique jewelry collection!
