Simply breathtaking!
Words almost can’t describe the absolute beauty of this rare 18th century latching fob. Crafted circa 1780 in a glimmering 18 carat gold, this piece exudes Georgian glamour, with ornate metalwork and intricate detail. On the top of the fob is a dark carnelian intaglio displaying an opulent, fleur-de-lis inspired crest. The resulting silhouette is simply royal – a piece fit for a Queen!
But alongside the artistry is another delicious surprise – a secret compartment! The carnelian side of the fob opens up to reveal a small, nearly-hidden compartment. It is wonderfully constructed – the top latches well, and the compartment on the bottom is watertight. With that in mind, this fob might have been used for poisons, or other eclectic curio.
A ridiculously excellent and rare example, this is a wonderful piece for both the antique connoisseur and art historian alike!
