Words almost can’t describe how beautiful this 19th century Art Nouveau necklace is. Originating in 1860, every detail is a feast for the eyes – from the delicate pearls to the wondrous dangle drop, to the pièce de résistance– a gorgeous three-dimensional Cameo, depicting the side portrait of an elegant aristocratic woman with the most lustrous hair.
Though this piece exudes classic French Art Nouveau design sensibilities, it holds a surprising detail – 14 carat hallmarked American gold!

This necklace is an American “vol” (theft) of the very iconic Napoleon III era design – featuring delicate framing along the cameo, and a beautiful, graduated strand of coral beads. The cameo is breathtaking; delicately carved, with a peachy tone that evolves from cherubic pink to a peachier tone of coral. Along the cameo, the detailing creates a sweet, watercolor-like hue, adding to the romanticism of the 3D portraiture.
This necklace is quite long for her age and example and details a lot of stylistic elements that reveal 19th century style sensibilities – particularly the fascination with Archaeological Revivalist jewelry and looking towards the past.
