English Platinum Diamond Starburst Brooch | ~2.98ctw 64 Diamonds | All Original | c.1915
The diamond platinum star you've all been waiting for — a starburst, if you would!
Nine immaculate old European cuts, each 4mm × 2.75mm with the most wonderful window-y, open culets, sit at the heart of this entirely original English piece circa 1915. Around them, 55 supporting diamonds bring the total to 64 stones and approximately 2.98 carats — I/J to L/M colour, most in the J/K range, which gives the starburst a warm, living quality that cold white diamonds simply cannot match. The quality is unmatched. At 43mm top to bottom and 16.1 grams, she has the scale and the weight of a piece that was made to be seen — and the fabulous original screw-on/screw-off backing means she has been worn, and worn well, and is ready to be worn again.
Underneath the back, I bleive there is the original 18ct yellow gold hiding! A former owner had the brooch re-finished to obscure the bright butter yellow of the reverse (which was typical to brooches and jewels of this period) with all platinum. A superb little secret that only makes this convertible brooch more dear!
