English Opal Sapphire & Diamond Pendant| Post-Deco | 14ct White & Yellow Gold | c.1930s
Such a gorgeous example of the post-Deco period — pre-WWII, this was a special celebratory moment in English jewellery history, and this piece captures that sweetness and optimism!
A striking Paint-Stroke opal stars in this pendant: swaths of yellow, red, green, blue, orange, and — my favourite — lavender, span across the magnificent 19mm × 14mm surface. Five natural sapphires in 14ct yellow gold settings frame it with the characteristic calm confidence of English jewellery from this period, while 22 diamonds in white gold add their quiet sparkle at the edges. At 47mm tall, 23mm wide, and 8.8g, this is a sizable and genuinely commanding piece.
