This crescent has been the most asked-about and hotly contested piece of my recent acquisitions — and that outstanding, terribly fiery central opal is entirely to blame.
Paintbrush strokes of orange, lavender, green, and blue characterize this exquisite Australian opal, measuring 11mm × 7.5mm × 4.5mm (1.90ctw) with a large surface area and an intensity in the play of color that photographs and videos cannot fully capture. The fineness of the brooch is accentuated by the dramatic crescent silhouette: 65 old mine cut diamonds of 2.11ctw in a sterling silver top setting form the 72mm wing span. The silver topped setting offsets those particularly white, high-fire OMCs maximum contrast and brilliance — over the 15ct pink gold body. Outstanding for her age, in every sense.
