An absolutely amazing, French 18ct watch chain with two cheeky carnelian and bloodstone slides. Napoleon III period chains are beloved for their subtle luxury-- and this one with its outrageous scrolled settings of the slides and screw-on dog clip, with a 1.25cm diameter C-clasps is an extremely versatile example. Eternally desirable, anytime I acquire a French watch chain, it is quick to leave my hands; pure 18ct slide chains have become a gold standard in the jewel enthusiast's historical neck mess. This fine example features a lovely petite cuban chain with those wonderful bells and whistles- and the slides hold a sweet, secret meaning; carnelian for wealth, and bloodstone for health! May it bring many blessings to it's new neck mess.

A note on Watch Chains:
The tradition of women wearing watch chains as necklaces originated when soldiers departed home for the battlefields of WWI, leaving pocket watches and chains behind with their wives. Women would wear these talismans around their necks keeping them safe and close to the heart. Today the traditional purpose of the Albert chain may have changed but its timeless style and modern function as a statement necklace or addition to any collectors' chain family continue the evolution of the Albert chain into the 21st Century.
