Despite there being cherub and Cupid jewelry dotted throughout history, we love to find the ancient world's truly nefarious figure depicted; Pan, the nyph companion (also known as a Satyr!) was always itching for antics!
The use of cameos in necklaces, earrings, bracelets, brooches, and rings is one of the most prolific jewelry motifs used throughout the Victorian Era. Though they pre-date the Victorian era, for the travel-loving Victorians a cameo was a favorite, often a meaningful souvenir of a Grand European Tour.
A phenomenal early to mid 19th century cameo of a satyr takes center state in this gorgeous conversion ring, featuring an 18ct bezel setting; the Satyr was once a stick pin, which we've lovingly here converted to a ring. Featuring a 14ct shank of a casting form an early 19th century Georgian ring, I believe the marriage to be a fine, appropriate marriage of the beautiful cameo to continue his life as a ring. The Satyr was furthermore beloved for the more capricious 19th century collector of all things playful and ever so slightly sensual... for satyrs were know to stay out late partying with Bacchus!
