An illustrious English Victorian ring of the highest caliber — a 4.60 carat Ceylon sapphire of exceptional clarity, with no evidence of heat treatment, set in a heavily engraved 18ct gold mount of magnificent weight. Microscopic examination of the stone indicates that the soft color has not been enhanced (which would inspire fissures around the natural inclusions) indicating that there has not been any augmentation to the fine color.
A dreamy soft periwinkle Sapphire cabochon seated in a finely engraved 18ct setting. Estimated at over 4.60 carats, we believe the wonderful sapphire to be original to the ring, the the stone measures a commanding 12.02mm × 9.28mm to the best of our ability without removing from the setting.
The mount is equally remarkable. Fully engraved across 70% of its exterior surface in the deeply detailed manner of English Victorian goldwork at its finest, the ring weighs a substantial 6.47 grams — you feel the quality in the solid 18ct setting; it would make a lovely power pointer. The bezel has received minor reinforcement to protect the stone, which we consider desirable and responsible stewardship of a 160-year-old jewel.
