A true labour of love and of eras — an antique 10ct gold setting, married to a 14K antique replica shank, and crowned with a boulder opal hand-fitted by our lapidary; this ring has a remarkable story!
In search of the perfect stone for this antique bezel, we asked our jeweler for some boulder opal options; the third one he showed us simply blew our team away, for at the centre of the stone, a vivid hot pink play of color appears in the shape of a heart (see the second photo for the heart!)— a natural phenomenon within the opal matrix! Around it, the stone blazes with the full spectral fire that only the finest Australian boulder opals possess: electric greens, deep blues, flashes of magenta and violet. Every movement of the hand reveals something new. The stone came to life in the setting.
The setting itself has a history worth noting. Originally, it held a small shell cameo, its 10ct gold frame was reimagined and married to an antique-style 14K shank — a conversion done with care and craft, resulting in a ring that wears its layered provenance beautifully. The heavily detailed surround frames the opal like a stage for the majestic eternal sunset on the water.
