Belle Époque Aquamarine & Diamond Négligée Necklace | 15ct Gold | English c.1890
Two teardrops of the cleanest aqua spring, and one oval pool of aqua magic! It took me a bit of time, as an antique jewelry dealer, to warm to the term "négligée" to describe fine necklaces of the Belle Époque era, such as this, for I always thought of the night gown... But now, to know the word is to love it. To earn the term négligée, a delicate late 19th-early 20th century necklace must have a central culminating element and two drop details of asymmetrical length. This style was meant to move with the wearer, creating intrigue within the asymmetry. This particular example has exceptionally clean aquamarine stones and is in a fabulous large scale!
