A special English chain from the height of the archaeological revival movement, circa 1870. Each hollow 9ct gold link has been meticulously hand-faceted to catch and reflect the light in shifting planes—subtle from afar, dazzling up close. Though it might be tempting to assume fine chains of this era were watch chains, this particular link style was far more likely designed to be worn as a necklace. It would have been a thoroughly enviable thing to own in 1870s England—stylish, gleaming, and just ornamental enough.
At 17.5 inches and 40.7 grams, it wears beautifully on its own or as an anchor for charms and pendants. The dog clip is hallmarked for 9ct gold, adding a note of practicality to its historic charm. A collector’s object, and a rare survivor of its era.
