All-Original Victorian 9-Carat Gold T-Bar Chain, English 1870s, 15 Inches
T-bars that have escaped the fate of the fond grow rarer by the day… It’s heartbreaking to know how many melted with the spiking price of gold, so when I see a beautiful, rare open link examples like this, I get a rush of excitement that I simply didn’t have when they were plentiful 10 years ago, when I founded the Curio.
I looked at three comparable chains over the course of a few days to select one to bring into the curio. I settled on this one, because every single link has been hallmarked for 9 carat, and the open links are magial. If I want to clip things onto them, it’s easy; if I want to extend them with another chain, the two dog clips come in clutch – I also like that the T bar is asymmetrically placed in this chain. A beautiful chain, worthy of the best pendants and brooches.
