A symbol of immortality, the sacred Egyptian scarab regenerated life through the eternal dance of dung. Although unpleasant in practice, this very act of trundling dung mounds is what earned the beetles their worshipped place in ancient Egyptian culture because of a divine affiliation with the sun god Ra. Along with embodying the concept of existence, development, and growth, the scarab was revered for representing the cycle of life and death. The extraordinary bestial was therefore carved or molded into treasured accessories and amulets throughout centuries-- but here at the Curio, we have never before had the pleasure of an ancient tablet, specimen set with a depiction of a scarab and two Ureus cobras, flanking the central scarab cartouche. This amazing example has been set in 14ct gold, with additional carving on the reverse, of the eagle god Ra as a lioness, in the classic pre-Hellenic Egyptian New Kingdom. We are honored to offer this scarab with two ribbons, and an original ancient Egyptian strand of mummy beads.
