Hera, the Queen of Goddesses and sister-wife of Zeus, is depicted in this unique shell cameo brooch. Hera is known for her ferocious temper, her beauty, and, of course, being the only woman to tame Zeus. Additionally, she is depicted with an exposed breast.
The carving in this piece is ornate, featuring a bandeau tiara on her curled & braided hair - which, by the way, is very difficult to do! Set in 14k, this is a very peculiar shape for its setting and its geometry indicates the Deco period.
