An eclectic gem from the turn of the century!
This American Pearl and Diamond ring is a unique treasure. Crafted circa 1930, this ring boasts a beautiful cluster of irregular shaped freshwater pearls arranged around a 14-carat gold rosetta shaped gallery.
The resulting silhouette is truly unique – for it almost looks as if the pearls are clusters of small, pearlescent teeth! How curious! The miniature diamond stones bezel set in the gold gallery add onto the eccentric design, casting a beautiful reflective glimmer against the pearls and the light.
We personally love this ring, as it underscores how the 20th century had an “organic figure” backlash to the Art Deco period in the 1930’s. As the U.S. was recovering from prohibition (which officially lifted in 1933) there was a heavy departure from the stringent geometry that came the decade before. This ring is a wonderful example of organic design, with the smooth irregular edges of the pearls rounding out some of the harsher lines of the gold gallery.
With its memorable construction and stand-out visage, this ring is no doubt one you’ll be picking up again and again!
