Few gemstones possess the presence of a star sapphire; weighing approximately 4.11 carats this periwinkle cabochon reveals the soft intersecting rays that give star sapphires their name, glide across the surface when seen in direct light.Offset with a halo of single cut diamonds, typical of the refined geometry of the Art Deco period.
The ring is French hallmarked for 9ct gold, and was most likely produced in France for the English market, a practice not uncommon among French jewelers serving British clientele in the early 20th century.
The sapphire shows a small area of surface wear to one side, consistent with its age, but the stone retains wonderful presence and character.
