An extremely rare Art Deco ring acquired in France — designed entirely in the manner of a late 18th century Louis XVI plaque ring, and executed with a collector's understanding of exactly what made those originals so beautiful.
The ring riffs on the clipped-shoulder plaque rings of the French Rococo Revival with an honest fidelity: the aquamarine at its centre is a clear, light blue of stunning saturation for its depth, and the old mine cut diamonds that surround it — generously over a carat total — have the most wonderful clear-cut culets that will sparkle romantically by candle or in the sun. The settings on the reverse are equally exceptional, with a beautiful windowed construction that reveals the stones from beneath. In 18ct pink and white gold, this is a piece that occupies a genuinely rare category: Art Deco craftsmanship in faithful dialogue with 18th century form.
