One of the most significant diamond brooches we’ve ever had the privilege of holding, this enthralling wreath from the end of the 18th century would have been a piece of upmost importance in the jewelry box of a noblewoman due at court. Perhaps English made for the Russian court, this jewel likely would have been worn on the owner’s outer sleeve, as a “pageant brooch.” Such a magnificent jewel would serve to signify her affiliation with a prestigious order her family was aligned with, or her higher status among the other princesses and duchesses at court.
A similar style of brooch was worn by the Russian Empress Maria Fiodorovna (Princess Dagmar of Denmark) in a late 19th century portrait. As empress, her jewelry collection would have been comprised of important 18th century pieces, including a circular pageant brooch similar to this one.
This brooch will be an important, landmark addition to any collection, containing 2.45cts diamonds, are some of the earliest mine cut diamonds we’ve ever had, (1.90cts, the largest at .58cts) along with delish rose cut diamonds bound to dazzle for generations.
