Rare Green Enamel and Diamond Renaissance Revival Holbeinesque Necklace. in 15ct Gold
Did you know that Hans Holbein the elder was not only a wildly talented painter and portraitist, but a designer of fine objects for the English King, Henry VIII? He designed some of the most fanciful jewels of the renaissance, and when his paintings were displayed in London in the 19th century, for public view, a Renaissance Revival gripped public interest. This peculiar bracelet-turned necklace is an excellent example of Holbeinesque revival... and I simply am remiss to take it off.

- Era: Circa 1870; subsequently adapted into its present necklace form.
- Origin: English.
- Materials: Sterling silver-topped settings with 15ct rose-toned gold backing. All gold components, including the extension chain and clasp, are 15ct.
- Stones: 32 diamonds comprising five old European-cut diamonds with an estimated combined weight of 0.88ct, plus 27 rose-cut diamonds. The rose-cut diamond weight is not specified.
- Length: 15 inches.
- Weight: 8.08g.
- Construction: The antique decorative element may originally have formed part of a larger rivière or bracelet. The extension chain is a near-perfect colour match to the gold backing.
- Clasp: Matching clasp with green enamel detailing and diamond.
- Condition: Enamel in excellent antique condition.
- Alterations: Could be shortened into a choker if desired.
