Glamorous and gorgeous!
This is an absolutely showstopping pair of Cabochon Garnet and Diamond earrings – and an iconic example of classic English Victorian design. Crafted circa 1880 in a wonderful 18 carat gold, these earrings are fashioned in a “dew drop” shape, with fabulous deep-crimson Garnet stones that dangle from a dainty central gold station.
It is rare to find earrings of this caliber, and with such special garnets: these stones are huge and in excellent shape – with ornamental, rose-cut diamond encrusted leaves at the top, speaking to the final quarter of the 19th century’s interest in naturalism and the aesthetic movement.
At the height of a fully buttoned up Victorian repression, the 1880’s saw a deep fascination with the natural world, and sought to create jewels that mimicked the majesty of the world outside society’s boundaries.
These earrings – with their botanical yet glamorous artistic sensibilities – beautifully illustrate this artistic mindset. A magnificent addition to any antique jewelry collection!
