Delicate and darling!
Crafted circa 1933 in 18 carat gold, this is a wonderful classic French Virgin medallion. The portrait of the Virgin Mary, inscribed exquisitely along the vibrant gold, is sweet and deeply feminine. Note the way Mary is depicted in profile, lost in a reverie. In her hands she clutches a carving of Christ on the Cross.
There is such tenderness in this depiction of the Virgin, made even more so by the beautifully rendered lilies surrounding her figure! The resulting silhouette is regal, yet understated – a timelessly classic beauty, interpreted through iconic French decorative style sensibilities.
A beautiful addition to any antique jewelry collection!
