A rare 19th century American treasure!
Crafted circa 1860’s in a delightful 14 carat gold, this Malachite tie brooch is a truly superb example! It is rare to come across a malachite this pure, and we believe it is a “specimen” piece of this Civil War period – designed specifically to celebrate the uniqueness of this malachite stone.
What’s also notable about this brooch’s design is the heavy geometric style. The shape feels reminiscent of a bow, but the block patterning of the malachite – coupled with the proto-brutalist elements of the construction – creates a striking silhouette that feels almost Art Deco in nature. A wonderful example of the style of the time. And no doubt a foreshadowing the future aesthetic styles to come.
A beautiful addition to any antique jewelry collection!
