Truly one of the most sublime objects we have ever had. This true baroque revival cross dates to around the 1650’s, made of 20 carat gold. The cross’ inside is entirely hollow, originally designed to be filled with perfumed wax, this piece speaks to a moment in earlier medical history where good smells were believed to ward off illness. The three emerald and pearl drops are likely later additions, adding to the already outstanding garden gate, scroll form cross, this pendant is truly a museum piece and I am so tempted to keep it, so don’t test me.
