Stunning and one of a kind!
What’s there to say that can possibly capture the wonder of this rare Ancient Egyptian Shabti figure? Crafted in a beautiful ancient Egyptian faience, this statuette – converted into a wearable pendant or charm – can fit right at home behind museum glass, or along the small of your wrist.
Shabtis are Ancient Egyptian relics that were historically associated with funerary practices and the cult of the dead. Shabtis that were rendered with nonhuman faces – such as this specimen – often related specifically to the Egyptian Gods; notably Horus and Thoth.
What is curious about this shabti is that its details imply it may in fact be a Shabti of Apis/Hapis: a sacred bull deity and God of fertility, death, and the underworld. The masterfully crafted faience adds to its mystical aura, creating a gorgeous silhouette that commands attention and reverence.
No doubt an artifact held in high esteem during the Victorian Egyptomania, this is a magnificent find for any art historian or antique connoisseur!
