An absolutely remarkable woven hair bracelet, worthy of museum recognition, with a locket containing hair with a second weaving style. This rare example, in unbelievable condition is from the 1830’s-40’s with its generously decorated floral enameling covering the central seashell motif, with a differing floral enameled pattern on the clasps. Perhaps an example of the well known hair memorial jewel, it was also common to create hair jewelry to be given to friends or lovers simply after one cut their long luscious locks, which were typical for women to have during the period. A glorious glass locket obscures an excellent plait plain weaved hair with the main hair construction of the bracelet rendered in a tubular braid weave, with fully enameled double clasps on both sides. The details of this piece, enclosed with two patterns of enameling and two woven patterns of hair, is a superb example of the craftspersonship of the period.
